Y Not Festival is one of the more uniquely attended events of the season. Though it does have an alternative music stage (by the name ‘The Giant Squid’) it mainly caters for the more mainstream fan, with the likes of Fun Loving Criminals, Madness and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds featuring on this year’s bill. With pop music acts on show, it’s no surprise to see a large family contingent, and to keep them all occupied the organisers provide party games and other assorted forms of entertainment.

It’s a sight you wouldn’t see at a purely alternative music festival and although the atmosphere is weird and wonderful, I quite like the quirkiness of it. Read my review of this year’s event at thePunkSite.

For those that like their music a little heavier, The Giant Squid is the place to check out some of the best emerging talent in the UK’s alternative scene. Heck have built a reputation as one of the most entertaining live acts around, well known for going beyond the boundaries of the stage and paying little regard for their equipment (or safety) in the process.
