Lost Ground performed at Carpe Diem in Leeds last night and they were excellent. Intricate, complex instrumentation played tightly with bags of groove; I was thoroughly impressed. The band’s most recent EP Unalome shows signs of talent and potential but the screamed vocals are too monotonous and this takes some of the shine away from the music. The band is now a three piece, having parted ways with their vocalist and the result last night was a predominantly instrumental live set with the odd passage of clean vocals thrown in.

It’s a huge improvement in the band’s sound, one that “Limestone” demonstrates brilliantly. Lost Ground state that this represents the future direction of the band, which makes me extremely excited to hear more. These guys are definitely a band to watch out for and I can’t wait to see them live again.
