Bring Me the Horizon’s previous album Sempiternal showed a shift toward the poppier end of the rock spectrum, particularly on singles “Sleepwalking” and “Can You Feel My Heart”, however the rest of the album had some heavier songs to counterbalance them.

“Drown” appears to continue the theme of pop-rock, this song being a chance for vocalist Oli Sykes to demonstrate his singing ability against a backdrop of subdued, scripted music. The song is ok but fairly disposable: there’s nothing in the musicality of the song to encourage repeated listens and while the vocal hooks are pretty good, they aren’t unique enough to stand the song up on its own.

It remains to be seen whether there’ll be any heavier songs on the new album to offset the tame instrumentals offered by “Drown”, but on this showing it’s all just a bit wet.
